About Sofia
My name is Sofia, and I am a rising junior at a college prep high school. I have taken advanced math classes since I was in seventh grade. Starting in high school, I have taken all honors and AP courses. I've consistently scored in the top 4-6% on standardized testing, and achieved academic honors such as president's list (average GPA above 95% with no grades below a 95%), induction to National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), selection for Writing Center tutor, and after school english tutoring for elementary kids. I've both been in overwhelming situations academically myself and seen the students I tutor feel daunted by their workload; I've helped peers and students much younger than me push through these tough obstacles and achieve satisfaction at their mastery in a hard subject. It brings me joy to help others, and I'm excited for the opportunities superprof will provide to help more students (:

My name is Sofia and I have taken advanced math classes and been nominated to honor societies such as Mu Alpha Theta for mathematics. My favorite area to tutor is algebra for middle school and high school kids, as it is the fundamental concept for all advanced math classes. Practice makes perfect; especially when mastering math. What I find most helpful is walking my students through practice problems, explaining the process for specific problems and explaining WHY each step works. From there, I let the student experiment, attempting on their own to work out the problems, guiding them in the right direction along the way. Not only does this boost their confidence in their problem solving abilities, but it helps them remember how to solve problems by figuring it out themselves.
