About Mira
Hi! I’m Mira, a student at Yale University passionate about teaching and helping students achieve their full potential. I have four years of experience working as a peer tutor for high school students struggling with homework or exam prep and teaching K-8 students at a local Sunday school.
As someone who recently took the SAT and AP exams—earning a perfect score on the English & Writing Section of the SAT and 5s on both AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature—I know exactly how challenging they can be and what it takes to succeed on them. I am also up to date with the current versions of these exams.
I adapt my teaching style to match each student I work with. Whether you’re a high schooler reaching out to learn how to get perfect scores on your College Board exams, a parent of a younger child needing help with their summer homework, or anything in between, I know that together we can figure out how you learn best and use that knowledge to enable you to succeed.
I believe in setting ambitious goals and coming up with realistic plans to fulfill them. Our first priority is getting you the results you want, and by laying out a step-by-step process we can make that process seem a lot less intimidating.
Feel free to reach out and we can work out a plan together!

I believe that the best learning experiences rely on:
1. Setting a specific goal,
2. Developing a strategy,
3. Utilizing a mix of caring, personalized instruction and consistent practice to build confidence and make progress.
So, that's where I start with every student I teach: meeting them exactly where they're at and developing an individualized plan to achieve their goal.
*SAT English & Writing Section (for students in grades 9-12):
I'll assign a practice exam (or we'll look at a recently taken one) and we'll go over it together---pinpointing strengths and weaknesses. Then, I'll come up with a targeted plan to reach our goal score by the end of the tutoring period.
Homework isn't always exciting, but it's the best way to maximize our time together---during each session, we'll review the test questions the student completed beforehand, then complete a lesson plan on a targeted area from the practice (e.g. understanding data from a graph or analyzing how writers build an argument).
Once we've established mastery of the concepts and skills required, we'll practice strategies specific to the SAT test structure.
*AP Language and Composition/AP English Literature (for students in grades 9-12):
Since it's summer, we'll focus on preparing the student for the rigorous coursework of an AP English class.
For AP Language and Composition, this will include an introduction to classical rhetorical strategy, practicing MCQs and FRQs, and analyzing texts likely to appear in the student's course and on the exam in May.
For AP English Literature, we'll follow a similar study plan, except we'll replace the rhetorical strategy with one of the novels most frequently taught by AP Lit teachers and most applicable on the FRQs---Great Expectations, The Great Gatsby, or works of "similar literary merit" (as the College Board phrases it).
*English coursework (for students in grades K-12):
Summer homework can be tough, but performing well on it is the first step to a great academic year. We'll take it step by step, focusing on the areas that are the most challenging for the student.
For instance, we might focus on reading comprehension, grammar & spelling, argumentative writing, vocabulary, sentence structure, or whatever else the student would most benefit from. Over time, we’ll build confidence in their abilities and learn the skills necessary to succeed in any English course.
