• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I started tutoring 8 years ago following the retirement from my position of Finance Director within the SME sector.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I primarily teach Accounting & Finance at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, plus Corporate Finance modules to MBA students. I also cover most modules required for the accountancy profession (CIMA, ACCA, AAT).

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Most definitely inspired by those who started at the very bottom, i.e. Investment bankers such as Jamie Dimon (head of J.P. Morgan) and Lloyd Blankfein (CEO Goldman Sachs)

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Ability to communicate in simple language (specially complex concepts), patience and empathy, specially towards students under much exam pressure.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  Hard work always pays off, eventually.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Those students from a non-numerical background who arrive disheartened, but who subsequently leave with much confidence.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  Teaching itself is rewarding at many levels but finance in general is a passion of mine.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

  My success rate with students is very high and most return seeking help with later levels in their chosen subjects.
