About James
I have been a musician for 20 years, having trained at the Royal Marines School of Music, followed by a long and successful career in H.M. Band of the Royal Marines. I am also an accomplished Science teacher, having since gained a BSc Hons in Biological Science at the University of Edinburgh, a Diploma in Music Theory through the University of Portsmouth, and most recently, Qualified Teacher Status through the University of Cumbria.

I teach my classes using Rosenshine principles, ensuring subject material is introduced through example/demonstration, then supported practice, followed by independent tasks. I have varied life experience from previous careers and academic achievement, and always try to connect learning to real life examples, bringing context to aid learning. I ensure there is plenty of assessment for learning throughout my lessons, which informs me of the students' progress and helps me plan and adapt bespoke lesson structures.
