About Abigail
I have a unique combination of skills and qualifications which make me uniquely placed to support students in academic writing across the health sciences, as well as proofreading essays and manuscripts in science and arts subjects.
I am a HCPC-registered Paramedic, and hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science. While not everyone enjoys the academic side of the degree course, I am interested in how the field's presence in higher education is changing emergency medicine. I am also studying at Masters Level now.
I am particularly interested in the teaching of 'soft skills' such as leadership, coaching and mentorship, and practice education in the ambulance service setting. My long-term goal is to move into education and teaching.
I also hold a First Class BA (Hons) in English. I love reading and writing, both fiction and non-fiction, and am most often found with a book or a notebook in hand in my spare time. I have editing and proofreading experience in academic settings, as well as of manuscripts (both fictional and biographical stories).

I have experience of coaching and mentoring students in BA English, BSc Paramedic Science, and CertHE Ambulance Clinical Technician pathways with a particular focus on academic writing and study skills.
I offer online or public place sessions tailored in length and content to your requirements, including but not limited to:
- a first session to discuss your current situation and proposed needs, and to assess your current level of knowledge and experience
- discuss ideas for your essays with the module and mark scheme in mind
- identify a suitable structure for your assignment and some helpful resources for working through this
- troubleshoot throughout the process
- edit your work together, identifying strengths and areas for improvement before submission
- develop your academic voice and writing style, including citations and references
- support your understanding of academic writing, including appendices, citations and references, and reflective and reflexive work
I can also review a finished piece of work alongside the marker's comments and the marking rubric to identify areas for improvement or put those comments into perspective. I only offer this for pieces of work have not supported you to develop, so as to minimise bias.

Abbie is a very attentive tutor who made me feel that she was really listening to what I wanted to achieve. She is professional, courteous and has a good eye for detail with lots of advice on how to maximise the available marks on the written work she helped me with.
