About Karen
I started my teaching career in 1995 in Harlingen, Texas where I was asked to take over a 3rd grade class when the regular teacher moved. Prior to that I had only been a substitute for that school but they had been so impressed I was hired without a teaching degree. I immediately enrolled at the University of Texas to work towards my certification.
Over the years, I have taught literally thousands of students. From private to public schools and owning my tutorial business I have nurtured students throughout their academic careers to see them go on to become ancor-women for television, a film producer, business owners, philanthropists, doctors, and authors - to name a few.

I am a Missouri and Texas certified teacher. Recently relocated from Texas where I owned my own tutoring company for the past 16 years. I have tutored chemistry, life science, geography, history, geometry, algebra I and II, trigonometry, ACT/SAT test prep, college essay writing, in addition to private fine arts including violin.
I believe in teaching to the students strengths. Find out what kind of learner - tactile, auditory, visual- and enlist as many way to help them achieve mastery of the topic. I do not believe in memorizing for the sake of regurgitating the information back on a test just to forget it immediately. If a student actually learns the subject, they will always know it.
I have a BFA in Art from Truman State University and my teaching degree from the University of Texas - Brownsville.
