My teaching methodology is to work from the exam specification, since it entails everything that could possibly be assessed. This alongside using textbooks and past papers regularly from the beginning, to help make your own notes. I set students with regular homework and a mini quiz at the beginning of each lesson to recap what we have learnt, by using past paper questions by topic; helping the student become familiar with exam techniques.
