About Amos

My name is Amos, and I teach the SAT as a set of learnable skills rather than a collection of tricks. Scoring a 1560 myself taught me what the test actually rewards: precision in reading, fluency in a limited set of math concepts, and the discipline to avoid careless errors under time pressure. Every part of my method is built around those three things.

My method and techniques

We start with a full-length timed diagnostic on the digital SAT format. I then go through it question by question to find where points are really being lost. Most students misjudge this; the topics that feel hardest are often not the ones costing the most. From there I build a plan that targets the actual gaps.

In Math, I make sure the core content is solid first, since the SAT draws on a surprisingly small set of algebra, functions, and data topics. Then we focus on speed and accuracy: recognizing question types instantly, using the built-in calculator strategically, and catching the errors that turn a right answer into a wrong one. In Reading and Writing, I teach students to read for the author's structure and purpose, to predict the answer before looking at the choices, and to master the grammar and punctuation rules the test uses over and over. Every missed question gets fully taken apart; you're done not when you know the right answer but when you can explain why each wrong answer is wrong.

A typical lesson

All lessons are held live online over video with a shared whiteboard, so I can see the student's work in real time and they can see mine. The backbone of my program is the full-length practice test. Between sessions, the student completes a timed practice test on the digital SAT format; our lesson is then devoted to reviewing it in depth. A thorough review takes a full session and often more than one, because we don't just check answers. For every missed or guessed question, we reconstruct how the student approached it, identify the precise point where the reasoning went wrong, and work out why each incorrect answer choice is incorrect. Questions that were answered correctly but slowly or uncertainly get the same treatment, since those are the ones that cost points on test day.

When the review reveals a pattern, such as a grammar rule that keeps slipping or a type of function problem that consistently eats time, I assign targeted practice on that specific skill to work alongside the next practice test. That way, every practice set the student does is chosen because their own results called for it, not because it's next in a workbook. As the cycle repeats, the practice tests show whether the targeted work is paying off, and the plan adjusts accordingly.

What sets me apart

I have an official 1560 SAT score, I founded a test prep company, and I taught upper-school calculus at a classical academy before building my tutoring practice. I write my own worksheets and practice sets rather than relying on generic materials, and I've worked with students at every level, from those starting in the 900s to those chasing a perfect Math section. My training in a great-books liberal arts program means I teach reading and writing as genuine skills, not test-taking hacks, which is why gains tend to stick.

Who these lessons are for

I work online with high school students in grades 9 through 12 anywhere in the United States, including juniors preparing for spring test dates, seniors making a final push before application deadlines, and motivated sophomores getting an early start. I also help students transitioning from the PSAT and those switching over from the ACT. No particular starting score is required; I adjust the pace and intensity to each student's timeline, whether that's a relaxed semester-long plan or a focused six-week sprint before the next test. All you need is a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection.

I'm Amos, a professional SAT tutor with an official SAT score of 1560. I founded a test prep company and have spent years helping students across the country raise their scores through live online lessons, both through my own practice and through a national tutoring platform.

Before I built my tutoring business, I taught upper-school calculus at a classical academy. That experience shaped how I teach: I learned to break difficult ideas into steps a student can actually follow, to spot the exact place where someone's understanding breaks down, and to hold a high standard while staying patient. I also completed a great-books liberal arts program, which means I've spent years reading closely and writing carefully, exactly the skills the Reading and Writing section rewards.

Parents and students can count on a tutor who is organized, punctual, and honest. I prepare for every session, I track progress from one lesson to the next, and I'll tell you plainly where a student stands and what it will take to reach the target score. I write my own practice materials and keep current with the digital SAT's format and question types, so nothing we do is generic.

Online tutoring is not a compromise in my practice; it's how I teach. Sessions run over video with a shared digital whiteboard, and since the SAT itself is now taken on a screen, students practice in the same environment they'll test in. Whether your student is aiming to break 1200 for the first time or pushing from 1450 toward a 1550+, I'll meet them where they are and build a plan that fits their timeline and their goals.
