About Ian
I am a committed violin tutor with over 26 years of teaching experience, specializing in college students. I believe learning the violin should be clear, organized, and enjoyable, with steady improvement over time. My teaching style combines creativity, critical thinking, and mentorship. I help students build strong violin foundations including posture, bow technique, finger placement, rhythm accuracy, and tone control. I also guide students in musical interpretation and expression.
I use innovative teaching methods such as structured practice plans, slow practice techniques, recording feedback, and guided listening. These methods help students practice smartly and understand their progress. I also include basic music theory and sight-reading to support complete musical development. Accountability is an essential part of my lessons.
I help students set realistic goals, follow consistent practice routines, and stay motivated. I provide positive and constructive feedback.
