About Jennifer
I have done a lot of school over my years and am familiar with the stress that comes with not having a great handle on reading and writing. Even businesses today value "soft skills" like being able to communicate clearly over technical knowledge. I have a BA, a MA, a business diploma and all sorts of free education courses and none of them would've been possible without strong reading and writing skills. I also worked for 8 years as a bookseller and I hung out in the children's/young adult section a lot! I've been collecting books since I was born and they are my passion - I would love to share this passion with others.

First and foremost, I love to inspire my students to embrace reading. I firmly believe that the key to becoming a better writer is to read anything that keeps their interest. For elementary students, we will do a lot of reading aloud, books that hopefully they will not have already encountered (I have a wide variety) but geared to their interests and reading level. After some reading, I like to have students copy out their favourite quotes, freewrite about their favourite parts or characters and do some art work. All of this will hopefully reinforce the story in their minds and encourage them to read that next book.
With older students, I will work with them on books they are reading in class or homework they are struggling with, teaching grammar and phonics a little at a time. And yes, even older students like to have stories read to them!
